Coach Spoelstra in the Philippines for NBA FIT Week


After 20 hours of flying from Miami to Manila, this past week began a very special time for me, as I was able to combine important passions of my life which are family, basketball, and heritage.

In an effort to project the message of our HEAT culture, I am currently in the Philippines taking part in the first ever NBA FIT Week to the Philippines which is the largest NBA FIT program ever held in southeast Asia. The program aims at educating individuals and families on the physical, mental and emotional benefits of healthy living. Read more and view photos.

Miami HEAT Hospital Visits 2009

Miami HEAT players made the holiday season brighter for patients at the children�s ward of two local hospitals by distributing toys and other gifts. The HEAT teamed up with presenting partners FedEx and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida to host the HEAT Holiday Hospital Visits at Holtz Children�s Hospital at UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and at Baptist Children�s Hospital on December 22, 2009. One half of the team visited Holtz Children�s Hospital at UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and the other half visited Baptist Children�s Hospital. Burnie and the Miami HEAT Dancers also assisted in handing out toys to the many children who were admitted to the hospitals this holiday season. View Photo Gallery

James Jones & Larry Share Gift Give-a-Way

For the fourth consecutive year, founding HEAT Season Ticket Holder Larry Share donated toys to students at each of the three HEAT Academy Schools on December 16, 2009. Along with Burnie and the Xtreme team, Mr. Share personally delivered the toys to close to 300 student members of the HEAT Academy. The HEAT also provided Papa John�s pizza, Gatorade products, and brought the HEAT experience to each school they visited. In the final stop of the day at Jesse J. McCrary, Jr. Elementary, HEAT forward James Jones assisted Mr. Share in the toy giveaway and helped judge an impromptu dance competition. View Photo Gallery

    This season, through the Humana Jams for the Cure promotion, Humana donated $100 for every slam dunk that a HEAT player made during each HEAT home game. During the 2009-10 season, Humana donated $18,200 to the HEAT Charitable Fund through their Humana Jams for the Cure promotion. This year�s contribution brings Humana�s total donation to $146,600 since the inception of the program.














    Assist for Kids Community Initiative

    ASSIST-CARD, presenting sponsor for the 2009-10 Miami HEAT season, is very proud of their ASSIST for Kids program. For each HEAT assist during the 2009-10 season, ASSIST-CARD will donate money to Miami HEAT-supported charities including the Miami HEAT Foundation Charities. The Miami HEAT Charitable Fund supports programs for the betterment of at-risk families in South Florida. Beneficiaries include SafeSpace, a domestic violence shelter for women and children, the Jackson Memorial Foundation's Guardian Angels and Holtz Children's Hospital, and the Miami Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Community. The Miami HEAT Charitable Fund also provides educational scholarships for high school seniors and partners with inner-city elementary schools to fund the HEAT Academy, which provides after-school tutoring and mentoring programs. Through these initiatives, the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund continues to inspire the youth of South Florida to envision their dreams and achieve their goals.
